During the summer festival five years ago, two girls met at a mysterious tree and saw two glowing spheres. Now, these two girls--Saki Hyuuga, ace pitcher on the school softball team; and Mai Mishou, who prefers sketching over stargazing--are chosen by the spirits of flowers (Flappy) and birds (Choppy) to restore the Seven Fountains and save their worlds from Dark Autumn. Together, they are the NEW Pretty Cure.

Where it came from
PreCure Splash Star was produced by Toei Animation as the third entry in the long-running Pretty Cure franchise, debuting in 2006. Positioned as a standalone successor to the Futari wa Pretty Cure series, the show was designed to maintain the magical girl action formula while introducing a new aesthetic and character dynamic focused on the elemental themes of nature and the balance between light and dark.
The series was directed by Toshihiko Arisako and featured character designs by Akira Inagami, who had also defined the visual style of the first two seasons. While it faced the difficult challenge of following the highly popular original iteration, the show is noted for its distinctive focus on friendship and the grounded, artistic interests of its protagonists, Saki and Mai, which differentiated its narrative tone within the expansive Precure canon.
