Sarumaru is a wild child who lives in the countryside with his mother and five siblings. He's a self-proclaimed "professional golfer", playing betting golf as an amateur at a nearby golf course using his handmade driver. One day Sarumaru's golf technique is discovered by Mr. X, the shadow leader of the golf world, who tries to bring the boy under his control by sending against him his underlings.
This is the story of the fierce battle between Sarumaru and Mr. X's golfers.

Where it came from
Pro Golfer Saru, or Pro Golfer Saru, originated as a popular manga series by the creative duo Fujiko Fujio before being adapted into this 1985 television series by TV Asahi. The story centers on a young, talented monkey named Saru who navigates the world of professional golf, blending sports competition with the distinct, whimsical storytelling style characteristic of the studio’s output during the mid-1980s.
The character design reflects the classic aesthetic of the era, focusing on expressive, approachable shapes that appealed to a wide youth audience. The series was well-received for its lighthearted take on the sport, successfully leveraging the popularity of golf in Japan at the time. It remains a notable entry in the sports-anime genre, representing a period where character-driven, aspirational storytelling dominated the broadcast landscape.
