Pro Golfer Saru: Super GOLF World e no Chousen!!

Released in 1986, Pro Golfer Saru: Super GOLF World e no Chousen!! represents a cinematic expansion of the popular manga and anime series created by Fujiko Fujio. The franchise follows the adventures of Saru, a young protagonist with an exceptional talent for golf who utilizes his unique skills to overcome elaborate and often whimsical courses. Produced by Shin-Ei Animation, the film was designed to capitalize on the soaring popularity of the series, which had become a staple of sports-themed animation in Japan during the mid-1980s.

The film's visual identity remains deeply rooted in the distinct aesthetic of 1980s Japanese animation, characterized by expressive character designs and imaginative, hyperbolic athletic feats. As a theatrical feature, it was intended to offer fans a higher-budget spectacle than the television series, focusing on complex golf matches that challenged the protagonist against outlandish competitors. It is widely viewed by collectors as a nostalgic artifact that captures the intersection of Japan's bubble-era fascination with golf culture and the creative storytelling characteristic of Shin-Ei Animation at that time.
