Where it came from
Reset, known in Japan as 'Riset', is a 2006 television drama series produced by NHK. The program was developed within the network’s tradition of high-concept psychological thrillers, aiming to explore the intersection of human regret and the consequences of altering one's past. The narrative centers on a mysterious character who offers protagonists the chance to restart their lives at a specific point in time, provided they are willing to accept the unpredictable ramifications of those choices.
The series design was heavily influenced by the popular anthology format prevalent in Japanese television at the time, focusing on atmospheric tension rather than elaborate special effects. It was written by Koji Suzuki, best known for his work on the 'Ring' franchise, and his involvement brought a distinct layer of narrative dread to the production. Upon release, it was noted for its minimalist approach to science fiction, garnering interest for its philosophical questions regarding causality and the nature of second chances.
