Residence

Residence is an original video animation (OVA) produced by the Japanese studio EDGE and released in 2017. The project emerged during a period of experimentation within the independent anime scene, where smaller studios sought to utilize the OVA format to showcase technical animation prowess and atmospheric storytelling outside the constraints of broadcast television series. It represents a niche entry in the studio's catalog, functioning as an aesthetic exercise that emphasizes visual texture and environmental design.

The creative direction for the piece focused on a minimalist narrative structure, relying heavily on visual pacing rather than dialogue. By prioritizing an immersive sense of place, the design team aimed to evoke a specific, contemplative mood. Upon its release, the project was noted by enthusiasts of experimental animation for its clean line work and deliberate, slow-burn pacing, though it remained a largely underground production intended for a dedicated audience of animation connoisseurs.
