Ruin Explorers Fam & Ihrie

Ruin Explorers, known in Japan as Hikyou Tanken Fam & Ihrie, was released as a four-part original video animation series by Bandai Visual in 1995. The project was adapted from a manga series by Kunihiko Tanaka, a creator celebrated for his distinctive character designs and detailed fantasy world-building. The anime aimed to capture the charm of a lighthearted, classic quest-driven adventure, drawing inspiration from contemporary role-playing game tropes and dungeon-crawling narratives.

The animation production was handled by Animate Film, with the direction provided by Takeshi Mori. The series focuses on the escapades of two aspiring adventurers, Fam and Ihrie, as they navigate traps and magical artifacts in search of treasure. While the series is often remembered as a charming, if somewhat ephemeral, product of the 1990s direct-to-video market, it remains a notable example of the era's fantasy-comedy aesthetic, characterized by Tanaka’s signature character style and a focus on spirited character chemistry.
