Shattered Angels

Shattered Angels, originally titled Kyōshirō to Towa no Sora, was produced by the studio TNK and released in 2007 under the NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan banner. The series was developed as a supernatural fantasy anime that fits into the 'yuri' genre, exploring themes of connection, destiny, and interpersonal struggle against the backdrop of an academy setting that eventually pivots into a more apocalyptic narrative. Its creation coincided with a period in mid-2000s anime production where high-concept romantic dramas were frequently blended with mecha or magical elements to broaden their appeal.

The series was directed by Tetsuya Yanagisawa, who utilized character designs intended to evoke a distinct, stylized aesthetic common to the era's light novel adaptations. While the series attracted a dedicated audience for its art style and the central relationships between its protagonists, it received a mixed critical reception. Many reviewers noted that while the animation and emotional stakes were clear, the narrative pacing occasionally struggled to balance its complex lore with the intimate character-driven moments that formed the core of its creative intent.
