Where it came from
Shiwan Ge Leng Xiaohua, also known as One Hundred Thousand Bad Jokes, began as a web comic created by Han Wu in 2010. Its transition into an ONA series produced by L² Studio captured the cultural zeitgeist of early 2010s Chinese internet humor, defined by its irreverent subversion of classic folktales, anime tropes, and contemporary pop culture references.
The production by L² Studio focused on a deliberately stylized, lo-fi aesthetic that mirrored the chaotic energy of the original source material. By blending slapstick comedy with meta-narrative commentary, the series resonated with a young demographic and became a landmark project for the Chinese animation industry, proving the commercial viability of independently produced web-based episodic content.
