The promotional video for the Shousetsu Tokimori-tachi no Last Dance, specifically the segment titled Tanabata no Yoru ni Okaeri, was produced by Toei Animation as part of a multimedia initiative to generate interest in the light novel series. These promotional clips are designed to bridge the gap between static print media and dynamic visual storytelling, utilizing the studio's technical expertise to render key scenes from the narrative. The project reflects a broader industry trend where major animation houses collaborate with publishing labels to provide high-quality teasers that function as atmospheric snapshots of the source material.

The creative direction behind this piece focuses on capturing the melancholic and nostalgic tone inherent to the light novel's world. Toei Animation designers aimed to translate the character illustrations into a fluid, expressive format that would resonate with the established fanbase while attracting new readers. The reception was generally positive among the literary community, with many viewers praising the way the animation style mirrors the aesthetic sensibilities of the original light novel's cover art, effectively communicating the emotional stakes of the Tanabata theme without requiring full episode-length exposition.
