Street Fighter Alpha: Generations

Street Fighter Alpha: Generations was released in 2005 as an original video animation produced by A.P.P.P. (Another Push Pin Planning). Serving as a loose adaptation of the Street Fighter Alpha manga series by Masahiko Nakahira, the film was designed to bridge the gap between the original Street Fighter and the more mature thematic elements introduced in the Alpha sub-series. It was part of a broader effort by Capcom during the mid-2000s to expand the narrative depth of their iconic fighting game characters through animation.

The film was directed by Ikuo Kuwana, who utilized a distinct, minimalist art style that moved away from the traditional, vibrant aesthetic common in contemporary anime adaptations of the era. The production aimed for a more grounded, internal focus on Ryu’s struggle with the darker influence of the Satsui no Hado. Upon its release, the project was met with mixed reviews from the fan community, with many appreciating the character-driven narrative and atmospheric departure from the standard tournament-arc formula, while others noted the brevity of the runtime and the stark visual deviation from the game source material.
