Through these words his friend asked during a school excursion, Kaizu Takumi became aware of his interest in the opposite sex. Of course, there have always been girls around him, like his childhood friend Hatano Konami, his classmate Ebizuka Shino, popular school idol Shimazu Kakana etc. However, he never noticed his feelings until he was questioned by his friend. After growing anxious seeing his friend try to find a girlfriend, he resolves his mind to find a girlfriend of his own during his last summer of high school life.

Where it came from
The 2006 OVA _summer was produced by the studio Rikuentai, emerging during a period when visual novel adaptations were gaining significant traction within the Japanese animation industry. The project was conceived as an adult-oriented romantic drama, designed to translate the character-driven narrative and aesthetic sensibilities of its source material into a concise animated format. It reflects the stylistic trends of mid-2000s independent animation, characterized by a focus on intimate character interactions and emotive, atmospheric storytelling.
The design and animation work were handled by the core Rikuentai team, who aimed to evoke a sense of melancholy and seasonal nostalgia typical of the genre at the time. Upon its release, the OVA served primarily as a niche title for enthusiasts of the original visual novel, functioning as an aesthetic companion piece rather than a mainstream production. It is recognized today as a distinct example of the era's smaller-scale studio projects that catered specifically to the established fanbases of visual novel properties.
