You're spending a boring summer vacation cooped up in your postage stamp-sized apartment, when you receive a call from your relative's mom. It seems she and her husband are going on a trip, so they want you to come back to the countryside, and look after your old childhood friend Hazuki for a while. Well, it certainly beats melting here in the city, so you decide to accept the offer. So you start preparing for the journey...

Where it came from
SUMMER: Inaka No Seikatsu was released in 2022 by the independent animation studio Mousou Senka. The work was produced during a period of rising interest in atmospheric, slice-of-life digital animation, specifically aiming to capture the sensory experience of a quiet, rural Japanese summer. It belongs to a niche genre of independent OVAs that prioritize evocative background art and ambient soundscapes over complex plot development.
The production sought to evoke nostalgia through a focus on natural lighting and pastoral scenery. Designed as a meditative viewing experience, it reflects the studio's interest in minimalist storytelling techniques. Upon its release within the independent anime community, it was noted primarily for its technical proficiency in digital painting and its ability to construct a distinct sense of place, establishing Mousou Senka as a notable presence in the small-scale animation scene.
