Where it came from
Released in 2008, this short film was commissioned by the Japanese construction giant Taisei Corporation as part of their 'Voice of the Future' advertising campaign. Produced by CoMix Wave Films and directed by Makoto Shinkai, the project was intended to highlight the company's technical prowess and ambitious infrastructure visions through high-fidelity animation, a hallmark of Shinkai's work during this period.
The film depicts the conceptual construction of a new international airport, focusing on the blend of architectural grandeur and human aspiration. Characterized by Shinkai's signature use of dramatic lighting, hyper-detailed backgrounds, and emotive storytelling, the piece was well-received for elevating corporate branding into a cinematic experience, effectively bridging the gap between commercial messaging and artistic expression.
