Where it came from
Tennis no Ouji-sama: BEST GAMES!! was produced in 2018 to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the Prince of Tennis franchise. The series of original video animations was conceived to revisit and re-animate pivotal matches from the original manga and anime run, providing a modern visual update to the most iconic battles that defined the series' core narrative arc.
The production sought to offer a higher-fidelity aesthetic, utilizing contemporary animation techniques to refine the intense, high-stakes rallies characteristic of the series. By focusing on fan-favorite bouts like Tezuka versus Atobe, the project aimed to cater to long-term enthusiasts of Takeshi Konomi’s work, receiving a generally positive reception for its elevated production values and commitment to honoring the emotional weight of the original source material.
