Where it came from
The Doraemons: Dokidoki Wildcat Engine was released in 2000 as a short film accompanying the broader Doraemon theatrical franchise. Produced by Shin-Ei Animation, these shorts were designed to expand the lore of the Doraemons, a team of specialized robotic cats from different cultures, offering a lighter, action-oriented spin-off from the main series.
The film leans into the whimsical, slapstick aesthetic characteristic of the era's children's anime. While the Doraemons series itself was conceived by Hiroshi Fujimoto to explore international settings, the design of this specific installment focuses on high-energy sequences and ensemble character dynamics, which were intended to capitalize on the popularity of the supporting cast among younger audiences during the turn of the millennium.
