Where it came from
Released in 1998 as a theatrical companion to the Doraemon film franchise, The☆Doraemons: Mushimushi Pyonpyon Daisakusen! serves as a short film centered on the titular group of robot cats. The series was designed to expand the Doraemon universe by introducing a multinational team of characters, each representing different countries and specialized robot schools, to appeal to a broader international audience of young viewers.
The production relies on the established aesthetic of the late-90s Doraemon animation style, emphasizing lighthearted, adventure-focused storytelling. While these short features were primarily created to bolster the annual Doraemon theatrical experience, they are recognized by fans as a distinct niche within the franchise, characterized by their focus on the camaraderie between the various specialized Doraemon models.
