The King's Avatar: For the Glory

Released in 2019, The King's Avatar: For the Glory serves as a cinematic prequel to the popular Chinese web novel and animated series of the same name. Produced by Colored Pencil Animation, the film focuses on the early career of Ye Xiu, the protagonist and legendary professional gamer, as he navigates the nascent stages of the esports scene. The production sought to expand the franchise's world-building by detailing the formation of the original Team Excellent Era and the strategic foundations of the fictional Glory competitive league.

The animation style builds upon the distinct 3D-heavy aesthetic of the source material, emphasizing high-octane sequences during competitive matches to capture the intensity of professional gaming. By concentrating on the camaraderie and competitive spirit between Ye Xiu and his early peers, the film aimed to provide emotional depth to the character's later narrative arc. It was received by the fanbase as a significant expansion of the franchise's lore, praised for its technical improvements in character modeling and fluid choreography compared to the earlier web-series installments.
