Compilation film for Kouya no Kotobuki Hikoutai which will also contain new footage.
In a desolate world where the safest form of transporting cargo is by zeppelin; air pirates roam the sky, preying on aerial commerce and holding remote towns for ransom. Against these airborne marauders, the only defense is to hire high-flying protection of your own, and that's where mercenary pilots like the girls of the Kotobuki Squadron come in. Behind the joysticks of their lightweight Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa fighters, these lady falcons play a deadly game of escort, where a single mistake can end up in a fiery crash or mid-air collision. But for birds of prey like Kylie, Reona, Chika, Emma, Kate, and Zara, the danger is worth it for the chance to spread their wings and soar into the heavens.

Where it came from
The Magnificent Kotobuki: The Movie was released in 2020 as a compilation and expansion of the 2019 television anime series directed by Tsutomu Mizushima and written by Michiko Yokote. Produced by studio GEMBA, the project was designed to showcase intensive aerial combat sequences using 3D CGI to replicate the maneuvers of World War II-era fighter planes. It serves as a culmination of the franchise's multimedia expansion, which included a mobile game and a manga, aiming to provide a cinematic experience for fans of both aviation history and character-driven ensemble storytelling.
The film's visual identity was spearheaded by character designer Hidari, whose work emphasizes a blend of traditional anime aesthetics with the rigorous technical demands of the series' flight simulations. Upon release, the film was noted for its technical ambition in integrating high-fidelity aircraft models within a stylized narrative framework. It was received as a stylistic experiment that leaned heavily into the niche subgenre of 'girls and machines,' focusing on the tactical depth of dogfighting and the interpersonal dynamics of the Kotobuki Squadron pilots.
