Where it came from
The Night Game: Neko no Sakusen is a specialized, niche software title developed for the PC-9801 platform, a series of Japanese computers that dominated the market during the late 1980s and early 1990s. It reflects the era's experimentation with interactive storytelling and puzzle-based mechanics, emerging during a period when Japanese developers were pushing the technical limits of the platform's hardware for visual-heavy entertainment.
The game is a quintessential example of the 90s doujin and amateur PC gaming scene, where small teams and independent developers leveraged limited graphical capabilities to create distinctive, often quirk-driven experiences. Its design prioritized an eccentric aesthetic and localized, character-driven narratives that were common in the subculture of the time, earning it a modest but dedicated place in the archival history of Japanese personal computer gaming.
