Sachiko is an unhappy girl who is very picky about food, which is why she doesn't get enough energy and performs poorly at school PE classes. One night, a white rabbit appears and takes her to the Land of the Moon. There, she meets a princess who looks exactly like her except that she is active, happy and healthy. This meeting inspires Sachiko to change her ways.

Where it came from
The Princess and the Moon, released in 1983, emerged during a period of significant expansion in children's illustrated literature. Created as a standalone special edition, the work reflects the ethereal and often melancholic aesthetic popular in early 1980s fantasy picture books, which sought to blend traditional folklore sensibilities with more contemporary, dream-like illustration styles.
The design emphasizes a soft, atmospheric color palette intended to evoke the night sky and the celestial themes central to the narrative. It was crafted to appeal to a market increasingly interested in high-quality, art-forward storybooks that served as both reading material and decorative pieces. While it remains a niche entry in the landscape of 1980s publishing, it is recognized by collectors for its distinctive illustrative tone and the specific production quality of its binding and print run.
