Where it came from
Trava: Fist Planet was produced in 2002 by the renowned animation studio Madhouse as a four-part original video animation series. Serving as a prequel to the cult classic feature film Redline, the project emerged from the creative collaboration between director Katsuhito Ishii and animator Takeshi Koike. It was designed to establish the gritty, high-octane aesthetic and futuristic world-building that would later define the visual identity of Redline, focusing on the titular protagonist and his partner Shinkai.
The aesthetic of the series is heavily influenced by the distinct kinetic style of Takeshi Koike, who is celebrated for his precise character designs and fluid, aggressive action sequences. By blending traditional cel animation sensibilities with an edgy, comic-book-inspired palette, the team sought to create an immersive science fiction adventure. Upon release, the series was well-received by fans of independent animation and remains a significant milestone in the studio’s legacy, valued for its stylistic continuity and narrative foundation within the broader Redline universe.
