Where it came from
TRAVA: FIST PLANET was produced by Studio Madhouse and released as a series of short episodes beginning in 2002. This project served as a direct spiritual successor to the aesthetic and narrative sensibilities of Redline, created by the visionary team of director Takeshi Koike and writer Katsuhito Ishii. It was born from a desire to explore high-octane science fiction tropes with a distinct, rugged visual style that emphasized kinetic energy and character-driven storytelling.
The design of the series is heavily influenced by the gritty, retro-futuristic sensibilities favored by Koike, often described as 'pulp-sci-fi' with a heavy emphasis on dynamic movement and expressive character silhouettes. Episode two continues the journey of the titular protagonist, Trava, across surreal alien landscapes. Upon its release, the project gained a dedicated cult following for its uncompromising visual direction and its unique role as a bridge between experimental animation and mainstream action-anime conventions.
