A Knot in Time - Reflection Mayu found a camera floating in the ocean while she was on vacation. A very unusual camera. The film, mostly intact, reveals a picture of herself with a man she has never seen before. But that is not all. The unusual part is that this camera has not been made yet... and will not be made for another two years. And soon, Mayu finds herself swinging uncontrollably back and forth through time like a pendulum...
Mystery Case - File 538 A down-on-his-luck detective accepts the first case to come his way: surveillance of a man and a little girl. But who are they? And why do aeroplanes that fly over them turn into giant imperial carp? An investigator's normal methods do not apply when reality itself no longer applies...

Where it came from
Twilight Q was produced by Ajia-do Animation Works and released in 1987 as an experimental two-part original video animation series. Coming out of the mid-1980s Japanese animation boom, the project was conceived as an anthology series that would allow creators to explore science fiction and psychological themes outside the constraints of traditional television serialization. It is perhaps best known for its association with Mamoru Oshii, who directed the first episode, Reflection, before his departure from the project led to the production of the second episode, Mystery Case File 538.
The series is celebrated for its surreal, contemplative aesthetic, which deviated from the high-octane action typical of the era's popular OVAs. The design and narrative approach sought to lean into atmospheric storytelling, utilizing deliberate pacing and thematic ambiguity. While the project was met with mixed commercial success upon release due to its unconventional structure, it has since been reassessed by critics as a significant precursor to the more experimental and philosophical works that would define the prestige era of late 1980s and early 1990s Japanese animation.
