Where it came from
The 2025 Underdog short animations were developed as a modern revival of the iconic superhero beagle, originally created by W. Watts Biggers in the 1960s. These ONA (Original Net Animation) shorts were produced to reintroduce the character to a new generation of digital audiences, focusing on short-form storytelling that mirrors the fast-paced, humorous tone of the original series while utilizing contemporary high-definition animation techniques.
The design approach for these shorts emphasizes a blend of nostalgic character aesthetics—maintaining the classic red suit and cape—with streamlined, clean visuals suitable for mobile streaming platforms. The production team aimed to capture the earnest, melodramatic spirit of the original voice acting and slapstick humor, striving to balance homage with a fresh visual language that resonates with modern web-based media standards.
