Where it came from
Urawa no Usagi-chan was produced by Studio A-Real and broadcast in 2015 as a regional promotional anime series. The show was explicitly designed to highlight the culture and geography of the Urawa district in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. Each episode features young women based on local train stations, reflecting the growing trend of using localized anthropomorphic characters to foster civic pride and tourism within specific Japanese municipalities.
The character designs were created to be distinct and approachable, with each protagonist representing the unique atmosphere or landmarks of their namesake station. While the series provided a creative lens for exploring Urawa, it was produced as a short-form, low-budget niche project. Reception was largely centered among local fans and those interested in the niche genre of regional promotion, and it remains a modest example of mid-2010s localized experimental broadcasting.
