Where it came from
Urawa no Usagi-chan was an anime series produced by A-Real in 2015, designed as a regional promotional tool to boost the visibility of the Urawa district in Saitama Prefecture. The series followed eight anthropomorphized girls, each representing a local train station, as they navigated their daily lives. The 'Mihousou-banashi'—or unaired episode—was created as a special supplementary release, intended to offer fans of the short-form series a concluding or bonus narrative experience that did not appear in the standard broadcast television run.
The character designs were created to align with the moe aesthetic popular in mid-2010s regional promotion anime, emphasizing distinct color palettes and personality traits tied to the specific geography of Urawa. While the series was received as a niche interest primarily for local residents and dedicated anime enthusiasts, it remains a notable example of the trend toward localized 'geographic anime' aimed at driving regional tourism through character-based storytelling.
