Where it came from
The Virtua Fighter Customize Clip was released in 1997 as a promotional OVA produced by Production I.G. It served as a tie-in to the Virtua Fighter 3 arcade game, intended to showcase the depth of the title's new customization features and character dynamics. The animation was part of a broader marketing effort to translate the technical complexity of Sega's flagship 3D fighting series into a narrative format that would resonate with the established player base.
The visual direction and character modeling were handled by the veteran creative teams at Production I.G, who were renowned for their high-quality work on various anime adaptations of video games during the 1990s. The team focused on translating the distinct combat styles and updated character designs from the game into a fluid, action-oriented aesthetic. Upon release, it was well-received by franchise enthusiasts as a successful distillation of the game's competitive atmosphere and character personality.
