Watanuki-san Chi to

Watanuki-san Chi to, or The Watanuki House's Night, is a 2020 television series that serves as a sequel to the experimental sitcom Watanuki-san Chi no. Produced by TV Tokyo, the series continues the narrative centered on the lives of three sisters living in a shared house. It is notable for its unique production approach, which utilizes virtual YouTubers to voice and motion-capture the animated characters, blurring the lines between traditional anime and internet-based performance art.

The series design is rooted in the digital aesthetics of the VTuber movement, prioritizing character personality and comedic pacing over high-budget cinematic animation. The creators aimed to maintain the relatable, slice-of-life charm of the original installment while integrating more surreal, supernatural elements into the domestic setting. Upon its release, it was received as a niche but innovative project that appealed primarily to fans of virtual talent culture and those interested in the evolving intersection of digital avatars and scripted television storytelling.
