We're Still Underground

We're Still Underground is an animated music video produced by WIT Studio, released in 2019 to accompany the song of the same name by the Japanese vocaloid producer Eve. The project emerged from a growing trend of high-quality, standalone animated shorts commissioned by musicians to serve as visual narratives for their work, leveraging the distinct, fluid aesthetic that defined WIT Studio’s reputation following their success with series like Attack on Titan.

The video was directed and storyboarded by Nobutaka Yoda, who sought to capture a sense of melancholic urban transition through vibrant color palettes and kinetic character movement. Upon its release, the video received significant critical acclaim within the animation and music communities for its seamless integration of traditional hand-drawn techniques and modern digital compositing, effectively cementing the partnership between Eve and WIT Studio as a benchmark for contemporary J-pop visual storytelling.
