Xi Xing Ji: Qiong Qi Didong

Xi Xing Ji: Qiong Qi Didong is a feature-length animated installment derived from the popular Chinese manhua series Xi Xing Ji, created by Zheng Jianhe and Deng Zhijia. The franchise reimagines the classic Journey to the West mythos with a dark, gritty fantasy aesthetic, centering on a world where the gods have become corrupt and the traditional pilgrimage is inverted. This film expands upon the established lore of the studio, BYMENT, which is known for its highly stylized 3D animation techniques that emphasize dynamic action sequences and elaborate character designs reflective of contemporary Chinese animation trends.

The production sought to maintain the visual fidelity of the original manhua while translating its signature high-contrast, edgy aesthetic into a cinematic format. BYMENT focused on intricate detailing for the supernatural beings and the distinct, weapon-focused combat choreography that defines the series. Upon its release, the film was received as a significant expansion of the Xi Xing Ji universe, garnering attention for its technical ambition and its commitment to the cynical, revisionist tone that distinguishes the source material from more traditional interpretations of the folklore.
