Where it came from
Xingmen, also known as Star Gate, emerged from the burgeoning Chinese original net animation (ONA) market during a period when Tencent Animation & Comics sought to expand its influence in the science fiction genre. The series was developed as part of a strategic push to adapt popular web literature into serialized visual content, aiming to capture a domestic audience interested in high-concept space opera and speculative technology.
The animation reflects the aesthetic trends prevalent in mid-2010s Chinese digital production, emphasizing sleek, computerized character models and expansive, celestial backdrops. While the series was designed to showcase the technical capabilities of its studio, it arrived during a competitive era for domestic web-based animation and was received primarily as a genre exercise, notable for its ambition in visualizing intricate interstellar conflict.
