Bernd Zimmer: Maler; Ursprung, Farbe, Reise

Published in 2002 by Wienand Verlag, this monograph serves as a comprehensive overview of the work of Bernd Zimmer, a prominent figure in the 'Neue Wilde' or 'New Fauves' movement that emerged in West Germany during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The book was produced to accompany major exhibitions of his paintings, cataloging his evolution from the raw, expressive brushwork of his early career to the more meditative, landscape-oriented focus he developed in later decades.

The volume focuses on the thematic triptych of origin, color, and travel, which have remained central to Zimmer’s artistic philosophy. His design aesthetic, captured within these pages, reflects a departure from strict minimalism toward an intense, saturated palette intended to evoke the spiritual and geological resonance of the natural world. It was received by art critics as a definitive retrospective that contextualizes Zimmer’s transition from an urban-focused painter to an artist deeply engaged with the global landscape.
