Bruno Schulz

Published in 1992 by the Adam Mickiewicz Museum of Literature in Warsaw, this volume serves as a critical retrospective dedicated to the life and multifaceted work of the Polish-Jewish writer and artist Bruno Schulz. It emerged as part of a concerted scholarly effort in post-communist Poland to re-examine and preserve the legacy of a figure whose life was cut short by the Holocaust and whose surreal, visionary prose had endured a period of relative obscurity during the mid-20th century.

The publication functions as both a literary collection and an archival catalog, bringing together key biographical details and reproductions of Schulz’s distinctively intricate, often dreamlike graphic art. Designed to provide a comprehensive window into his world, the book was received by literary circles as an essential contribution to the study of the Drohobycz-born author, helping to cement his status as a titan of European modernism whose influence on surrealist literature remains profound.
