Bruno Schulz

This collection represents the evocative and surreal legacy of Bruno Schulz, a Polish Jewish writer and artist whose work gained profound posthumous recognition as a cornerstone of 20th-century literature. Produced in the post-communist cultural climate of early 1990s Poland, this volume serves as a tribute to an artist whose original manuscripts and drawings were largely lost during the Holocaust. It reflects the deep intellectual commitment of the publisher, Bosz, to preserve the legacy of a man whose dreamlike, labyrinthine prose remains a singular achievement in European modernism.

The editorial approach to this work focuses on the intersection of Schulz’s literary output and his visual art, specifically his intricate pen-and-ink illustrations. By curating these pieces together, the volume invites readers into the atmospheric 'Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass' and the vivid, mythologized streets of Drohobycz. It was received as an essential scholarly resource for those seeking to understand the synthesis of Schulz’s two creative mediums, providing a visual grounding for his famously dense and metamorphic narrative style.
