Where it came from
Published in 1980 by the Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, this volume serves as a comprehensive exhibition catalogue dedicated to the Dutch sculptor David van de Kop. The publication emerged during a period when the Van Abbemuseum was cementing its reputation as a leading institution for contemporary European art, focusing on artists whose work challenged the boundaries between traditional sculpture and structural, environmental installations.
The catalogue documents Van de Kop's transition toward large-scale, raw architectural forms, often utilizing industrial materials like wood and steel. The design reflects the austere, minimalist aesthetic prevalent in Dutch museum publications of the late 20th century, prioritizing clear photographic documentation of his site-specific works and process sketches to provide context for the physical scale of his sculptures as they existed within the museum's gallery spaces.
