Where it came from
Dinosaur Cove was launched in 2008 by Scholastic as a children's adventure series written under the pseudonym Rex Stone. The series was designed to bridge the gap between early readers and middle-grade chapter books, utilizing a high-interest subject—dinosaurs—to engage young readers. The books follow the characters Jamie and Tom as they discover a secret prehistoric world, blending paleontology with imaginative action.
The visual identity of the series, characterized by its vibrant covers and internal illustrations, was crafted to appeal to the 6-9 age demographic. It was received as a successful educational-entertainment hybrid, praised by educators for encouraging reading stamina through fast-paced plots and accessible language. The series grew into an extensive collection of titles that maintained a consistent tone and thematic focus on the wonders of the prehistoric era.
