Where it came from
Dinosaur Cove was launched in 2008 as a children's adventure series written by Rex Stone, a pseudonym for the author Helen Moss. Commissioned to tap into the perennial fascination younger readers have with prehistoric life, the series was designed to bridge the gap between early readers and more complex chapter books. Scholastic Paperbacks positioned these titles as accessible, fast-paced narratives intended to foster a love for reading through the imaginative lens of paleontology.
The visual identity of the series, featuring dynamic illustrations by Mike Spoor, was crafted to emphasize excitement and exploration. By blending accurate dinosaur details with a fictionalized, hidden valley setting, the books sought to create an immersive experience. Upon release, the series was well-received by educators and parents for its combination of historical curiosity and adventurous storytelling, eventually expanding into a substantial franchise that remains a staple in elementary school libraries.
