Where it came from
Dinosaur Cove was launched by Oxford University Press in 2009 as an educational yet thrill-focused chapter book series aimed at primary school readers. Written under the pseudonym Rex Stone, the series was designed to bridge the gap between simple picture books and more complex middle-grade novels, specifically targeting children transitioning into independent reading through the use of high-interest prehistoric themes.
The series emphasizes a mix of historical fact and fictional adventure, with the illustrations providing a visual anchor for young readers. The design choices were intentional, focusing on readability and engagement, which helped the series secure a steady following in school libraries and classrooms. While the identity behind the Rex Stone pen name has been a topic of curiosity, the series remains respected for its consistent delivery of accessible, dinosaur-centric storytelling.
