Ernst Ludwig Kirchner aus Privatbesitz

Published in 1969 by W. Kramer, this volume serves as a significant retrospective catalog documenting the work of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, a leading figure of the German Expressionist movement and a founding member of Die Brücke. The publication was assembled to address the growing scholarly and public interest in re-evaluating Kirchner's radical aesthetic contributions, particularly his emotive use of color and jagged, distorted forms which sought to capture the psychological intensity of the early 20th century.

The book highlights pieces sourced from private collections, offering a rare glimpse into works that remained largely outside of institutional viewing rooms at the time. The editorial approach reflects the mid-century art historical effort to synthesize Kirchner’s legacy across his transition from the vibrant landscapes of Dresden and Berlin to his later, more introspective period in Davos. By foregrounding private holdings, the publication played a key role in documenting the movement of his work through the hands of dedicated 20th-century collectors.
