Gigantic Cinema

Gigantic Cinema is a collection of poems by Alice Oswald, published by W. W. Norton & Company in 2020. The volume serves as a curated selection of Oswald’s work, drawing from her earlier career to highlight her deep engagement with the natural world and the rhythms of oral tradition. By compiling these pieces, the collection offers readers an entry point into the distinct ecological and mythological landscape that has become a hallmark of her lyrical style.

The book is characterized by Oswald’s focus on the fluidity of language and her attempt to capture the motion of landscape in verse. Designed to be both intimate and expansive, the collection reflects her background as a gardener and her interest in the performative aspect of poetry. Upon its release, the work was well-received by critics who noted its ability to balance traditional poetic form with a modern, elemental sensibility, solidifying her reputation as a prominent voice in contemporary British poetry.
