Where it came from
Published in 2004 by Wienand Verlag, this monograph serves as a comprehensive study of the artistic career of Jürgen Partenheimer, a prominent German painter and sculptor known for his abstract, philosophical approach to form. The book was produced as part of the publisher's ongoing commitment to documenting significant figures in contemporary European art, capturing the ethereal and often metaphysical quality of Partenheimer's work as it evolved through the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Maria Linsmann curated the text to contextualize Partenheimer’s aesthetic, which frequently explores the relationship between silence, light, and the physical mark of the artist. The design of the volume reflects the minimal and meditative nature of the subject’s own practice, utilizing clean typography and carefully reproduced plates to mirror the contemplative atmosphere of his gallery installations. Upon its release, the volume was received as a definitive reference for those tracking the development of German abstract expressionism in the post-war era.
