Where it came from
Jürgen Partenheimer : borderlines was published in 1997 by Richter Verlag to accompany the artist's significant solo exhibition of the same name. Partenheimer is recognized for a lyrical, abstract style that often bridges the gap between drawing and painting, exploring themes of memory, transience, and the philosophical boundaries of perception. The book serves as a retrospective catalog of this period, documenting works that prioritize sparse, gestural marks against expansive negative space.
The design of the monograph reflects the minimalist aesthetic central to Partenheimer's body of work. By collaborating with Richter, a publisher noted for high-quality art documentation, the volume emphasizes a clean, contemplative layout that allows the delicate nature of the artist's ink and gouache compositions to breathe. Upon its release, the book was well-received within the European contemporary art circuit, solidifying Partenheimer's reputation as a thoughtful practitioner of German abstract expressionism.
