Where it came from
Published in 2014 by Die Gestalten Verlag in collaboration with the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, this volume serves as a comprehensive monograph dedicated to the abstract works of the German artist Jürgen Partenheimer. The book was produced to coincide with major institutional exhibitions, documenting his profound exploration of light, space, and the metaphysics of painting, which have defined his career since the 1970s.
The publication captures the ethereal quality of Partenheimer’s aesthetic, which frequently draws inspiration from literature and philosophical thought. The design emphasizes a minimalist presentation of his ink drawings and large-scale canvases, reflecting the artist’s own preoccupation with 'the metaphysical reality of the image.' It was received by the art community as a definitive reference for understanding his place within contemporary European abstraction.
