Mahabharata of Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa, Book 14

This volume is part of the first complete English translation of the Mahabharata, originally published in Calcutta between 1883 and 1896 by Pratap Chandra Roy. The translation was primarily the work of Kisari Mohan Ganguli, a scholar who undertook the immense task of rendering the Sanskrit epic into accessible English prose. This monumental project was intended to preserve the ancient Indian narrative for a global audience, ensuring that the complex moral and philosophical dialogues of the text reached scholars and readers outside of the Indian subcontinent.

The 2022 edition published by Creative Media Partners is a modern reprint of this classic Victorian-era translation. It belongs to a long tradition of archival publishing that seeks to keep foundational texts in print through digital reproduction. Because Ganguli’s translation remains one of the most widely cited and historically significant versions of the text, these editions serve as a vital link between 19th-century colonial-era scholarship and contemporary readers interested in Vedic literature and epic poetry.
