Sherlock Holmes (Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans / Adventure of the Copper Beeches / Adventure of the Dancing Men / Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter / Adventure of the Naval Treaty / Adventure of the Speckled Band / Red-Headed League / Silver Blaze)

This volume is part of the Everyman's Library contemporary series, which was relaunched by Knopf in the 1990s to provide high-quality, cloth-bound editions of classic literature. The collection gathers several of Arthur Conan Doyle's most celebrated Sherlock Holmes stories, originally published in the Strand Magazine between 1891 and 1904. By selecting these specific tales, the edition aimed to showcase the evolution of the detective's methods, balancing the intellectual puzzle-solving of 'The Dancing Men' with the atmospheric tension found in 'The Speckled Band'.

The design of this Everyman's Library edition emphasizes a traditional, scholarly aesthetic characterized by a classic typeface, acid-free paper, and a distinctive dust jacket often featuring historical illustrations by Sidney Paget. This approach was intended to evoke the Victorian origins of the Holmes canon while providing a durable physical object for modern collectors. Upon its release, the series was well-received for maintaining the integrity of original texts while offering a cohesive, library-shelf appearance that appealed to both casual readers and serious bibliophiles.
