The Bravest Princess

The Bravest Princess, written by E.D. Baker and published by Bloomsbury in 2014, belongs to a long-standing tradition of subversive fairy tale retellings. Baker is well-regarded for her Tales of the Frog Princess series, and this standalone work continues her thematic focus on modernizing classic tropes. By centering on a protagonist who defies traditional royal expectations, the narrative explores themes of agency and courage, appealing to the middle-grade audience that has come to expect Baker's characteristic wit and charm.

The design of the book aligns with mid-2010s middle-grade fantasy aesthetics, emphasizing bright, accessible cover art that highlights the adventurous spirit of the title character. Released under the Bloomsbury imprint, the volume was positioned to capture the interest of young readers transitioning from picture books to more complex chapter-based storytelling. It was received as a solid, character-driven addition to Baker's bibliography, praised for its straightforward prose and the author's ability to maintain a consistent, lighthearted tone throughout the narrative.
