Хор донских казаков под управлением Сергея Жарова

The Don Cossack Choir, under the leadership of Sergei Jaroff, emerged from the remnants of the White Army following the Russian Civil War. Founded in 1921 in a refugee camp in Turkey, the ensemble became a vital cultural vessel for displaced Russian Cossacks, preserving traditional folk songs, liturgical music, and military ballads while touring extensively across Europe, the Americas, and Asia for over half a century.

This 2003 release on the Russkaya Lyra label serves as a retrospective compilation, designed to preserve the choir’s signature sound characterized by Jaroff's meticulous arrangements and the singers' distinctive, resonant vocal style. It captures a legacy that was widely celebrated during the twentieth century for its emotional depth and technical precision, ensuring that the choir's significant contribution to Russian choral music remains accessible to contemporary listeners.
