Where it came from
This collection of Russian folk songs, performed by the Don Cossack Choir under the direction of Sergei Jaroff, represents a significant archival release issued by the Moscow Metochion of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra in 2004. The recordings feature the choir's signature powerful vocal style, which became world-renowned during the twentieth century as the ensemble toured globally after their displacement from Russia following the revolution.
Sergei Jaroff, who founded the choir in 1921, was celebrated for his meticulous arrangements and the intense, emotive delivery of traditional Cossack repertoire. The release by the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra serves as a cultural preservation project, reissuing these historic performances to honor the legacy of the ensemble and the deep spiritual and folk traditions of the Cossack people, maintaining the authenticity of the vocal arrangements that defined Jaroff's tenure.
