Ad Lucem

Released in 2014 under the gterma label, Ad Lucem represents a collaborative effort between German ambient and electronic composers Rüdiger Gleisberg and Mathias Grassow. The album emerged from a period of active experimentation within the European drone and meditative music scene, where both artists had already established significant solo careers. The work is defined by its atmospheric layering, utilizing deep soundscapes to evoke themes of light and introspection, reflecting the label's commitment to releasing music that bridges traditional electronic synthesis with contemporary ambient textures.

The design of Ad Lucem, consistent with the aesthetic direction of gterma, focuses on minimalist, evocative visual language that mirrors the sonic content. Rather than relying on traditional iconography, the release favors abstract imagery intended to prepare the listener for an immersive experience. Upon its reception, the album was noted by ambient music enthusiasts for its seamless integration of Grassow’s signature dark, elongated drones and Gleisberg’s more structured harmonic sensibilities, cementing its place as a respected, if niche, entry in both artists' extensive discographies.
