Where it came from
Released in 2014 under the Parlophone label, this self-titled collaborative album marked the first full-length studio project between French singer-songwriters Alain Souchon and Laurent Voulzy. The two artists had enjoyed a prolific creative partnership spanning decades, with Voulzy famously composing the music for many of Souchon's most celebrated hits since the 1970s. This album was conceived as a celebration of their long-standing friendship and mutual artistic influence, blending their distinct yet complementary styles into a cohesive collection of folk-pop compositions.
The album was designed to capture a sense of intimacy and nostalgia, characterized by intricate acoustic arrangements and poetic, conversational lyrics that reflect the duo's shared history. Upon its release, the project was met with significant critical and commercial success in France, topping the national charts and earning platinum certification. Its reception was largely defined by the public's deep affection for the two men, who were viewed as cornerstones of the French chanson tradition, ensuring the record resonated as both a fresh musical statement and a retrospective of their creative bond.
